Not everyone thinks that 2017 was a vintage year, but for Dootrix it’s been pretty amazing, so please forgive us if we look back at some of our highlights.
We’ve doubled in size, opened a new office in Manchester, welcomed over a dozen new teammates and three new apprentices, and our first two apprentices graduated to become full-time Dooers.
We’ve launched important new apps and web services for new clients and long-term partners, and we’ve become suppliers and providers for some of the biggest technology platforms on the planet.
Dootrix is very proud to be a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider, a Sitecore Partner and our team includes AWS Certified Solution Architects.
We truly believe that business is always best done face to face – human to human – so to look after clients and partners in the North we opened an office in Manchester, and it’s quickly grown to be an essential cog in the Dootrix machine. Based in a fantastic space at the top of the Beehive Mills in the vibrant Northern Quarter, and lead by our Delivery Director Charlie Allen, the Manchester team of Wayne, Steve and Adam is likely to double in size again next year.
Down on the Hampshire farm the team has also been growing – seemingly exponentially – and we welcomed Tracey to run the test team, Simon to look after major clients, Jamie to head our growing design team and Jo to ensure that everything else ticks along smoothly. James, Stuart, Adam, Tamas and Thomas arrived too bringing more software engineering and UX design expertise, as well us upping the beard count (now running at approximately 30%)
Apprentices no more
One the most satisfying events of the year was witnessing the graduation of Mary and Ben from the Dootrix ‘University’ after two years of focused apprenticeship training. Mary showed a keen aesthetic eye right from the start and so it’s no surprise that she’s grown into a skilled UI designer trusted by both the design team and some impressed clients. Ben has also impressed everyone as he followed his desire to become a back-end developer, not only becoming a vital part of the team, but also becoming (we’re pretty sure) the UK’s youngest Certified Sitecore Developer. Dan is now in his second year of training and has been joined by a third year intake – Tom, James and Alister – all working under Tracey’s wise tutelage.
We’ve got plans to add apprentices to the Manchester team in 2018 so if you know of someone Lancashire-based who is up for the challenge, please do let us know.
Be like water
By happy accident, we’ve spent a lot of time this year working with people who take care of water. From Clancy Docwra, with whom we’ve won industry awards and plaudits for pioneering the use of Machine Learning to try to predict mains leaks, to helping the marine conservation charity Surfers Against Sewage to re-think what their Safer Seas & Rivers Service app could be and could do.
We’ve also started work with i2O, a UK company whose monitoring and management systems have been giving insight and analysis to utilities and water companies around the world. We’re looking forward to helping them to release the next generation of their solutions in 2018.
What all of these organisations have in common is their enthusiastic embrace of technology to solve the problems that matter to their people – customers, partners or the wider public – and it’s exciting for us all at Dootrix to have played our part in their successes this year.
There’s more water-based work to come next year, as well as news of our partnerships with two of the UK’s best known travel brands, and we look forward to sharing that and much more in 2018.
